The Deed is Done

...and it's also signed and delivered, transferring eight lots in Empire Park from Empire Electric Cooperative to the Mancos Public Library. The 25-foot by 138-foot lots were one the site of a coal-fired generating plant that provided electricity for residents of Mancos; now the land will generate a new library for the Mancos community. Participants in the historic transfer of property Monday afternoon are, from left, Empire Electric Accounting and Finance Manager Marvin McDonald, Empire General Manager Nal Stephens, Library Director Patsy Smith, Mancos Library Board President Robin Strother (holding the deed), and Library Board Past President Darla Welty.

Empire Park a Possibility for New Library Site

Photo
Library Board Members walk the Empire Park property Thursday evening. Empire Park, owned by Empire Electric and leased to the Town of Mancos, is now the sole focus in the library's search for a site to build a new and larger public library for the Mancos Valley. The subject will be on the agenda at the library board's next meeting, beginning at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening at the library; the public is welcome.
